Leak Detection & repair in irrigation lines

Something Felt Off in Westbury

One morning, I got a call from a homeowner in Westbury. He said his sprinkler system didn’t feel right. His lawn was soaking wet in one spot, and the rest looked dry and dusty. He’d checked the sprinkler heads—nothing seemed broken. But his water bill had jumped. Fast.

I showed up, walked the yard, and within minutes, my boots sunk into a soggy patch near the front sidewalk. We dug down and found a cracked pipe just under the surface. The water had been running for weeks. Quietly. Out of sight. He had no idea.

Leaks like that are super common in Houston—especially in older areas like Garden Oaks, Sharpstown, and parts of the Heights. Our soil moves a lot, and irrigation lines don’t always handle that well.

What’s Lawn Leak Detection?

It’s how we find hidden leaks in the underground pipes that feed your sprinkler system. These lines carry water all over your lawn. When they break, the water doesn’t always shoot up like a fountain. It seeps underground. Slowly. Until your grass turns yellow, or your soil turns mushy. Or your water bill gets out of control.

Lawn leak detection in Houston isn’t about guessing. It’s about spotting small signs before they turn into big problems.

Signs You Might Have a Leak

If you’re dealing with one of these, there’s a good chance your irrigation line is leaking:

  • Water puddles in one part of the yard
  • A zone with low water pressure
  • Sprinkler heads that bubble instead of spray
  • Yellow or brown grass in some areas
  • A random soggy patch
  • Sky-high water bills with no clear reason

If you live in places like Meyerland or Bellaire where the ground floods or shifts often, leaks are even more common.

Why Houston Lawns Leak More

Our soil is clay-heavy and it shifts a lot—especially in the heat. One dry week, then a week of rain, and boom: ground movement. This stress can crack pipes. Older irrigation systems in neighborhoods like Timbergrove and Oak Forest weren’t built to flex with all that motion.

Also, Houston gets rain—but not always where or when we need it. That makes homeowners rely more on their sprinkler systems, which means more wear and tear on the pipes.

How We Find Leaks

We don’t just walk around guessing. Here’s what we actually do:

  • Check water pressure in each zone
  • Look for soggy spots and green streaks in the grass
  • Use listening tools to hear water underground
  • Turn zones on and off to see how they act
  • Dig small holes if we think there’s a leak (we fix the area after)

You won’t see us tearing up your whole yard. Most leaks are in one small section. We keep it clean and quick.

One Leak = Lots of Problems

Last summer, a client in Katy called us late. His front yard had a soft spot near the driveway, but he figured it was just rainwater. Turns out it was a slow leak under his walkway. By the time we got to it, the water had eroded the soil and the concrete started sinking.

Leaks don’t fix themselves. They get worse. And fast.

They can:

  • Waste thousands of gallons of water
  • Kill your grass
  • Ruin your foundation
  • Raise your water bill big time
  • Create mold in the yard or even near your house

Fixing Lawn Leaks Is What We Do

Our team handles irrigation line repair in Houston every day. We’ve fixed leaks under patios, flowerbeds, sidewalks—even in tight townhome backyards in Midtown.

We’ve worked in River Oaks, Energy Corridor, Heights, Spring Branch, Pearland, and more. We know the soil. We know the systems. We know what works here.

We also install new systems, smart controllers, and handle regular maintenance. But leak detection is one of the most common things we get called for—especially after a heatwave or a big storm.

How to Keep Leaks from Coming Back

Here’s a few tips from the jobs we’ve done:

  • Don’t run your sprinklers every day (the soil gets too soft)
  • Watch for water pooling—even a little
  • Check your sprinkler heads for clogs or leaks
  • Get your system checked once a year, especially after a freeze
  • Upgrade old PVC pipes if they crack often

Real Talk from the Field

We had a client in the East End with a beautiful St. Augustine lawn. Thick, green, well-kept. Then, one zone stopped working. He thought it was the controller. Nope. A root from a nearby crepe myrtle had snapped the line. Water had been leaking into the bed for a month. The tree was happy—but the grass was dying. We fixed it in about 90 minutes. No more soggy mess.
